Robert Herrick

About the poet:

Born: August, 1591 in Cheapside, London
Died: October 15, 1674

Robert Herrick was a 17th century English poet who wasn't really recognized for his poetry until the twentieth century.

He was born the seventh child in his family and at age one his father fell and died (possible suicide).  He turned to his uncle where he apprenticed as a goldsmith for six years but decided it wasn't for him.  He left for St.John's College and graduated from there in 1617.

He joined a group that admired the works of poet Ben Jonson and wrote at least five poems about him.

Herrick became vicor of Dean Prior for the second time in 1662 and lived there till his death.
