About the poet:

Born: October 27, 1914 in Glamorgan, Wales.
Died: November 9, 1953 in New York, United States.

Thomas was a Welsh poet who wrote his poetry exclusively in English.

He left school at the age of 16 and worked as a journalist for a while.  Much of his poetry had already been published while he was a teenager.

Despite the fact that Thomas became a popular poet in his lifetime he struggled to earn a living from his writing.  As needed to supplement his income with broadcasting and became very well known for his public readings in radio and film.
