DLTK's Crafts for Kids Penguin Paper Craft  (Circles practice)  This craft is suitable for households that don't celebrate Christmas (and for those that do!).   It's also a great craft to pull out for the younger sibling while the older one works on the tp roll version. Kaitlyn (Age 2) also made one.  I often have people indicate that their children are "unable" to make the craft.  When determining whether the craft is appropriate, focus on the level of enjoyment, pride and attention-span of the child not the perfection of the finished product.  Kaitlyn's penguin isn't perfect but she sure had fun making it and was very proud to make the same craft as her big sister!!  CLICK to see a large photo of hers.

Materials:

• a printer,
• paper,
• some crayons, paint, markers or pencil crayons,
• scissors,
• glue.

Optional materials: 

• fun foam,
• something hard as a base (a margarine container lid or cardboard from a cereal box work well),
• ribbon, string or wool.

Instructions:

• Print out the craft template of choice.
• Color (if using the black and white version of the craft) and cut out the template pieces.
• If you want, you can trace some or all of the template pieces onto fun foam to make a more permanent craft.  Or you can glue the template pieces to a hard base (cardboard/margarine container lid).
• Sort the circles into small, medium and large.  The small and large circles should be black and the medium circle white.
• Have your child practice counting by counting all the circles (don't forget the middle of the eyes!).
• Glue the tummy (medium circle) onto the large circle.
• Glue the head (small circle) onto the large circle.
• Glue on the face, toque, wings and feet.
• You can attach a string or ribbon to hang on the tree, or just hang it up on the fridge.

• Set page margins to zero if you have trouble fitting the template on one page (FILE, PAGE SETUP or FILE, PRINTER SETUP in most browsers).
