Three Little Coffee Cup Piggy Banks
Introducing an exciting craft project for your little ones: The Three Little Piggybanks! We'll create three adorable piggy banks using coffee shop cups, each with a special purpose. One piggy bank is for spending, another for saving, and the last one for giving. This fun and educational activity will teach your children the importance of managing their money and the value of generosity. So, gather your materials, and let's get started on creating these cute piggy banks together!
Materials:
- 3 coffee shop cups with lids (clean and dry)
- Craft knife or scissors
- Colored paper or paint (for decoration)
- Glue or Mod Podge (if using paper)
- Paintbrush (if using Mod Podge or paint)
- Black marker (for details)
- Colored paper, felt or cardboard (for ears and snout)
- Glue or tape (to attach the features)
- Pipe cleaners or paper (for legs and tail)
- Optional: Labels or stickers (to label the piggy banks)
- Optional: Wiggly eyes
Instructions:
- Prepare the coffee shop cups: Make sure your cups and lids are clean and dry before starting the project.
- Cut a coin slot: Use a craft knife or scissors to carefully cut a coin slot into the plastic lid of each coffee shop cup. Make sure it's large enough for coins but not too big that they'll fall out. Ask an adult for help if needed.
- Decorate your coffee shop cups: Choose your preferred method of decoration – colored paper or paint.
a. If using colored paper, cut the paper to fit the size of your cups and attach it using glue or Mod Podge. For a smooth finish, apply a layer of Mod Podge on top of the paper and let it dry completely.
b. If using paint, paint the entire cup with your desired color or pattern. Let it dry completely before moving on to the next step.
- Add the features: Cut out triangle ears and an oval snout from the colored paper, felt or cardboard. Attach them to your coffee shop cup piggy banks using glue or tape. You can make the nose stand out from the cup by gluing a square of thick cardboard behind it.
- Use a black marker to draw the eyes on the head (or glue on wiggly eyes)
- Draw nostrils and maybe a smiley mouth on the snout.
- Attach the tail: Create a curly tail using a small strip of paper or a pipe cleaner. Glue or tape one end of the tail to the back of each coffee shop cup piggy bank.
- Optional - Label your piggy banks:
Using labels or stickers, label each piggy bank as "Spending," "Saving," or "Giving" to help teach children about the importance of managing their money and the value of generosity. - Assemble the piggy banks: Place the lids with the coin slots onto the cups, and your piggy banks are ready!
Now your child has three little piggy banks, each with its own purpose. They can start saving their coins by dropping them into the appropriate slot and learn about budgeting, saving, and giving back. When it's time to empty the piggy banks, simply remove the lids and pour out the coins. Happy saving and giving!
