Day 3:  Shuswap to Chilliwack

< DAY 2      DAY 4 >

Darren and I woke to the loud cawing of crows.  There were two noisy birds fighting and we joked that they might be sisters.  We lit the fire again, Mommy managed to get it started with one match again this morning.

All we had for breakfast were marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate from the night before.  We packed up our tent and off we drove expecting a very long drive.  The Coquihalla Highway was a pleasant and fast surprised.  It took 3 hours to get to where we were going.  We stopped for an early lunch on the way and made it to Chilliwack before check in time.

Our room was ready early so we had a quick swim and then a bath.  The girls were surprised and excited to see the pool right outside our patio door.

turtles on a logAfter our refreshing swim, we climbed back into the van and went to Sardis Park.  Mommy had fun snapping photos of the pond full of geese and pigeons.  One of the geese was quite camera shy, it hissed at mom a couple of times before she finally got a picture.

Meanwhile the girls had fun in the playground.  When they’d had enough sliding we decided to go for a walk around the pond.  Not far into the walk Kaitlyn ran over a root and tripped.  She scraped her knee, but bravely agreed to continue on our adventure.  In the pond we saw Canada geese with goslings, ducks with ducklings and some turtles sunning themselves on logs.

bridal veil fallsNext we stopped at Bridal Veil Falls Provincial Park.  We climbed for about ten minutes up Mount Cheam to see the falls.  It was a step climb and mommy was tired at the top, but it was well worth it to see such a big waterfall.  We were a bit upset to see that people had broken the rules and left the path, but we just tried to ignore them.

It was easier going down the hill so we were able to enjoy the scenery.  We saw buttercups, wood violets, giant cedars with furry moss hanging from their limbs and a variety of fungus.

Driving back to our hotel, we were amazed to see a bunch of para gliders flying down from the mountain.  We pulled over to the side of the road to enjoy the show.  We saw about 5 in the air and 3 of them landed.  They had really big padded bums that they landed on.

We finished day 3 with supper at the hotel and a late night swim.
