Peacocks have an incredible display of feathers:Male peafowl, also refered to as peacocks, are known for their stunning display of feathers. During breeding season, the male will spread his feathers wide into a fan shape and shake them, creating a mesmerizing display of colors and patterns. The feathers, which are actually modified wing feathers, can be over 6 feet (1.8 meters) long and have distinctive "eye spots" that help to attract the female's attention. |

Peacocks can fly (despite their large size):Peafowl are not known for their flying abilities, but they are capable of flying short distances when needed. They use their strong leg muscles to run and then take off into the air, flapping their wings to stay aloft for a few seconds before landing again. |

Peacocks are territorial birds:Peafowl are known for being fiercely territorial and will defend their territory from other birds and animals. During breeding season, males will often engage in aggressive displays to assert their dominance and attract females. They may fan out their feathers, strut around, and even make loud calls to intimidate other males. Females also have their own territories, which they defend from other females. |
