- Glue the castle wall template pieces onto cardboard (you can use
old cereal boxes, poster board or the backings off of construction paper pads).
- Color as appropriate.
- Once glue is dry, cut out template pieces.
- Cut a slit along the dark line (2 lines on the edges of each template piece).
- The taller walls are the front and back of the castle. The shorter walls are the sides.
- Cut out the turret template pieces.
- Color as appropriate.
- Glue the castle turret template pieces onto 4 toilet paper rolls. (These will be the corners of the castle).
- Once glue is dry, cut 2 slits at the bottom of each turret (about 2 1/2 inches apart.) The slits should be about 3 1/2 inches long.
- Cut out the turret tops.
- Color as appropriate.
- Glue the turret tops around the top of each toilet paper roll turret.
- Let dry.
Slide the turret slit and wall slits together to complete the castle.
- You can cut a door out of the front wall if desired.
- Set your page margins to zero to ensure templates print properly (FILE, PAGE SETUP in most browsers.
- Mix and match colours for a rainbow castle!
Tamara, one of our viewers adds: The castle
craft was a BIG hit with my students today! We had mix and match castles in all colors of
the rainbow--quite a spectacle! :o) I cut an arched door in mine--seemed more castle-y.
Also, just wanted to let you know of a simple addition some of us made--pennants flying
from the towers, using pipe cleaners as flag poles and cutting the pennants out of felt. I
decorated my pennants with little stars by affixing a sticky star to yellow felt, cutting
out around the edges very carefully and gluing it to the pennant, shiny side down so it
didn't show. (I tried to remove the sticky star but the shape is so small that the points
are rather delicate and tend to tear off if you take the sticker off so I just left it
on.) They make a very striking addition to an already exciting craft. The kids were
clamoring to get started since I took color orders yesterday -- some are sure to wind up
as beanie baby homes.
