Decoupage Picture Frame
Today, we have a fantastic project that is not only fun but will also help your little ones develop their fine motor skills. We're going to create beautiful decoupage photo frames.
With our step-by-step guide, children can easily transform plain wooden frames into their personalized masterpieces. All they need are a few simple materials and their boundless imagination. Let's dive in!
Materials:
- A plain wooden picture frame (you can buy it from any craft store or online)
- Decorative tissue paper or napkins (choose your favorite colors and patterns)
- Mod Podge or white school glue
- A paintbrush (an old or inexpensive one will do)
- Fine grit sandpaper or emery board (nail file)
- Scissors
- A photo for your frame
- Clear acrylic spray (optional and to be used with adult supervision)
Instructions:
Always remember, crafting is more fun and safe with a grown-up around.
Step 1: Prepare Your Materials
With help from your grown-up, lay out all your materials on a flat, clean surface like a table. Make sure the surface you are working on is covered with newspaper or a plastic sheet to avoid any mess.
Step 2: Cut Out Your Design
Take your decorative tissue paper or napkins and decide on the patterns or pictures you want on your frame. Use your scissors to cut out these designs. They can be big or small, it's up to you!
Step 3: Glue Your Designs
Dip your paintbrush in the Mod Podge or white school glue and paint a thin layer on a small area of the frame. Then, carefully stick your cut-out design onto this area. Smooth it out gently with your fingers to avoid any bubbles or wrinkles. Remember, this part might be a bit sticky!
Step 4: Cover the Entire Frame
Continue the process of gluing and sticking your cut-outs all over the frame until it's completely covered. You can overlap your designs to make it look even more unique.
Step 5: Sand edges (optional)
Use sandpaper or an emery board to gently sand the edges of the tissue paper to create a crisp edge. This works better than scissors if you have a little too much overlap.
Step 6: Seal Your Project
Once the frame is covered to your satisfaction, paint another layer of Mod Podge or glue over the top of your designs. This will seal them in place and give your frame a nice finish. Let it dry completely. This might take a few hours, so be patient.
If you have a clear acrylic spray, an adult can help you spray your frame to give it an extra seal and shiny finish. Make sure this is done in a well-ventilated area.
Step 7: Add Your Photo
After your frame is completely dry, you can add your photo. Ask a grown-up to help you if the back of the frame is tricky.
And there you go, you've created a beautiful decoupage photo frame! You can make these as gifts or create a whole bunch to decorate your room.
Happy crafting!
