Origami Rabbit

This origami rabbit is actually two simple origami patterns.  One pattern to make the rabbit's head and then a second pattern that is done twice to make the two ears.

Materials:


TERMINOLOGY -- MOUNTAIN FOLD:

TERMINOLOGY -- VALLEY FOLD:

TECHNIQUE:

To make a square piece of paper, valley fold diagonally and cut off the excess

Instructions:

To make the rabbit ears:

 

  • Valley fold paper from edge to edge , making a rectangle.  Crease well and then unfold.

  • Valley fold the triangle from the other edge to edge, crease and unfold.  You'll now have a square with a creased plus sign splitting it into 4 quarters.

  • Valley fold paper from corner to corner , making a triangle.  Crease well and then unfold.

  • and you end up with a square of paper with creases like this.

  • Rotate your paper so one of the creased points is facing you.
  • Valley fold the left hand point to the center of the paper (where the creases cross).
  • Crease well!

  • Valley fold the right hand point to the center of the paper (where the creases cross).
  • Crease well!

  • Valley fold bottom left side point to touch the center crease
  • Crease well!

  • Valley fold bottom right side point to touch the center crease
  • Crease well!

  • And you have a petal!  You can see that if you're using double sided paper, you get a cute pattern with the two colours.

 

Repeat these steps to make the second ear for your rabbit.

To make the face of the rabbit:

 

  • valley fold the paper in half diagonally  (so you have a triangle)

  • turn the triangle so the point is facing toward you.
  • valley fold a little more than an inch of one corner over and crease it well
  • repeat with the opposite corner
Fold the corners of the triangle over.
  • undo the last two folds and then fold them backwards pushing the fold inside the triangle
  • this will leave you with a five sided shape.
Final shape of the rabbit's face.
  • Glue the ears to the back of the face.
  • Glue the wiggly eyes on the face.
  • Glue the pom pom or cotton ball nose to the face.
