Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday
Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. Was born on January 15, 1929 in in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He was a civil rights activist who worked on ending the legal segregation of African American people
in the United States during the 1950's and 1960's. Reverend King received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his efforts. His life ended tragically in April, 1968 when he was assassinated, but
his good works and legacy carry on.
There is also a national holiday in the United States celebrating his birthday -- it is observed on the third Monday of January each year, which is
around the time of King's birthday, January 15.
