Theodore ("Teddy") Roosevelt Toilet Paper Roll Craft

Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt was the 26th president of the United States.  His most notable achievement was as the first American to ever win a Nobel Prize -- he won the Nobel Peace Prize and for his slogan, "Speak softly and carry a big stick."  He lived from October 27, 1858 – January 6, 1919.

Another fun fact:  In 1902 Theodore ("Teddy") Roosevelt went on a hunting trip.  At the end of the day, he hadn't had much success, so a captured black bear cub (a baby bear) was brought for him to shoot.  The president said no way and the story touched the nation.  Soon a small toy bear was created that became popular around the world for generations to come -- the "Teddy Bear".

This is a fun and easy color, cut and paste craft that uses a toilet paper roll as a base to give the finished craft a three dimensional effect.

Materials:

• toilet paper roll or cardboard tube,
• printer,
• something to color with,
• scissors,
• glue,
• paper

Instructions:

• Print out the template of choice.
• Color the craft pieces if you printed the black and white version of the template.
• Cut out the template pieces.  This may require an adult's assistance. I usually let Kaitlyn cut out the easy pieces while I work on the harder ones.
• Glue the large rectangular piece on first to cover the tube.
• Glue the belt around the middle of the tube.
• Glue the head onto the top of the toilet paper roll, just above the pockets.
• Glue the hat onto the head.
• Glue the arms onto the sides of the body.
• Glue the teddy bear into one of the hands.
• Glue the feet onto the bottom of the toilet paper roll, using the tabs to give them a 3D effect (fold the tabs and glue so the feet stick out from the toilet paper roll).

Craft Templates:

• Close the template window after printing to return to this screen.
• Set page margins to zero if you have trouble fitting the template on one page (FILE, PAGE SETUP or FILE, PRINTER SETUP in most browsers).
